🌻 Wedding travel guide

Trieste & Beyond

by Ana & Ian

Since you're coming all this way to celebrate with us, we thought we'd share a few tips and ideas to help you make the most of your trip. Whether you're staying just for the wedding or turning it into a longer holiday, there's plenty to explore in and around Trieste.

For a bit of context: the church ceremony will take place in the city of Trieste, while the party will be at a villa about an hour's drive. Unless you're planning to rent a car and stay closer to the venue, we recommend booking your accommodation in Trieste for the days around the wedding.

Don't worry about logistics, we'll arrange a minibus to take you to and from the venue, so you can fully enjoy the celebration without having to think about driving back β€” or counting how many glasses of wine you've had.

Below you'll find our favourite spots, local tips, and some easy trips nearby, so hopefully it'll make your life and trip planning easier. But first things first…

Best base for the wedding Stay in Trieste unless you specifically want to rent a car and sleep closer to the villa.
Good news Transport to and from the party venue will be arranged, so getting back won't be a problem.

Favourite places in Trieste

On the days before and after the wedding, here's where you'll most likely find us:

Al Ciketo

Our absolute favourite. Don't question this, just save it on Google Maps immediately and thank us later.

Degusteria Km 0 Trieste

A nice hidden bar with great food. Perfect for pretending you're a local.

Trattoria Da Giovanni

Classic Trieste vibes: simple dishes, wine in graffe, and a very laid-back atmosphere.

Piazzetta Riccardo

Pick any bar. Seriously. It's hard to go wrong here.

Pizza da Pino

Self-explanatory.

Bonus picks

  • Ian's weird pick:
Go to Panetteria Pasticceria Dafina and get a burek with meat. Trust the process.
  • Ana's less weird pick:
Have a second breakfast at Panne Quotidiano in Viale XX Settembre and order a shakerato. Because one breakfast is simply not enough.

Where people hang out

If you're looking for good vibes, aperitivo, and the general art of doing nothing:

  • Piazza di Cavana β€” our favourite area, full of narrow streets, bars, and aperitivo spots.
  • Via Torino β€” lively and great for drinks, especially at night.
  • Ponte Rosso β€” scenic and central.
  • Viale XX Settembre β€” perfect for strolling and offers a bit of shade under the trees.
🌻

Short trips nearby

If you feel like exploring beyond Trieste, here are some easy options:

Italy

  • Venice β€” about 2 hours by car or train.
  • Verona β€” about 3 hours by car or train.
  • Trieste also has an airport, so you can hop to other Italian cities depending on the options available.

Croatia

  • Poreč / Rovinj β€” 1 to 1.5 hours by car or bus, small and charming seaside towns.
  • Pula β€” about 2 hours by car or bus, a cute seaside town with a Roman arena.

Slovenia

  • Ljubljana β€” 1 hour by car or bus, cute and very walkable.
  • Lake Bled β€” 1.5 hours by car or bus, looks like a postcard.
If you rent a car, you should be good to go. Another option we'd recommend, if possible, is to use trains in Italy and buses like FlixBus for Slovenia and Croatia. No borders anywhere, which makes moving around easy.

How to get from Amsterdam

We've tested a few routes:

  • Fly Amsterdam β†’ Venice (often arrives late, but Venice is a pretty decent layover city…)
  • Fly Rotterdam β†’ Trieste (the easiest option, but not daily)
  • Fly Amsterdam β†’ Trieste via Frankfurt

Getting to Trieste

  • From Trieste Airport:
Take a 30-minute train and you're in the city center.
  • From Venice Airport:
    Slightly more complicated:
    • Bus to Venice train station.
    • Then a 2.5-hour train to Trieste.
    • Or take a shuttle bus from Venice airport directly to Trieste β€” we usually use GoOpti.
⚠️ Trains don't run at night, so plan accordingly.

Thanks for coming all this way to celebrate with us β€” we're really looking forward to having you there and making amazing memories together 🌻
